Rams wipe out West Covina in CIF opener

Cate nearly ran the table in its CIF Division-IV playoff opener on Wednesday, as the Rams tennis team defeated visiting West Covina 16-2.

The Rams are the No. 2 seed and looked the part, clinching the match after the second round.

“We’re expecting to do really well this year,” said Cate senior Rohit Goswamy. “And I think if we just keep our heads together, play the game, and keep our cool, we have a very good chance of taking this.”

Cate's No. 1 singles player Blake Mackall swept three sets on Wednesday 6-1, 6-1, 6-2.

Asad Amin and Justin Lesniak were able to claim sets in singles for West Covina.

Cate’s second round opponent will be either Gahr or Estancia on Friday, with the location to be determined.

“With every round you go through the teams get better and better,” Goswamy said.
