Perry, Dons clear Central Coast hurdle

Jack Perry and the Santa Barbara High golf team came through with arguably their best round of the year on Monday when it mattered most, carding a two-under 358 to win the CIF Central Coast Team Regional by 12 strokes.

The Dons were first of 18 teams at par-72 Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Atascadero, beating out Righetti(370) and Atascadero(391).

“I was really surprised by how low the scores were,” said Santa Barbara head coach James Bedard, citing the blustery conditions. “The boys stepped up and really played their hearts out.”

Perry put together the day’s best round, starting out five-under par through nine holes before finishing with a six-under 66. Teammate Ray Gerow topped off his round with a birdie and eagle on his final two holes to card a three-under 69. Shane Lebow also finished his round strong, recording an eagle on his last hole.

It is the fourth straight year that the Dons have won the Regional outright, which advances Santa Barbara, along with Atascadero and Righetti, to Thursday’s CIF Team Final in Temecula.
