Vaqueros suffer rare shutout against Ventura

SBCC was held to six hits on Wednesday in a 5-0 WSC North baseball setback at Ventura College.?Steven Keller had two hits for the third-place Vaqueros (18-13, 8-7), who were blanked for just the second time this year. Erik Hong and A.J. Gallardo combined on the shutout for the Pirates (14-16, 6-9).

The Vaqueros had scored 19 runs in their previous game.

“It was one of those days where we didn’t do much of anything,” said coach Teddy Warrecker. “We played well defensively for the third straight game with 13 groundball outs.”?”But it’s disappointing that we didn’t do more on offense, considering where we are in the season (five games left). On the positive side, we get to go back out there tomorrow and hopefully, play with more of a sense of urgency.”

The same teams meet on Thursday at Pershing Park with the first pitch at 2:30 p.m.
