The Master’s double-trouble for Warriors

The Master’s (17-19, 10-14 GSAC) proved to be inhospitable hosts on Saturday as the Mustangs defeated Westmont Baseball (10-25, 6-18 GSAC) in a Golden State Athletic Conference doubleheader in Santa Clarita. The Mustangs won the first game 6-2 and the second 7-2.

The Warriors managed just two hits off the Mustangs’ starter David Goodenough who allowed one run in eight innings. Westmont picked up another run and two hits against Jacob Miranda who pitched the ninth inning. Kyle Noe took the loss for the Warriors after giving up four runs, three of which were earned, on seven hits.

The Warriors scored both of their runs on sacrifice flies, one by designated hitter Timothy Leary in the first inning and one by pinch hitter Geoff Rocha in the ninth.

In the second game, Westmont jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a two-run home run by Leary – his thirteenth of the year. But The Master’s responded with three runs in the bottom of the first and added six runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Leary, who also served as the Warriors starting pitcher, was assigned the loss. In five and one-third innings, he allowed five runs on eight hits. Leary struck out three and walked two. Joe Zeller earned the win with a complete, seven-inning, performance. Zeller, who allowed two runs on seven hits, struck out ten and walked three.

Next week, the Warriors will take on Concordia (19-18, 9-15 GSAC) in four games – two in Irvine on Wednesday and two at Russ Carr Field on Saturday. Wednesday’s games begin at eleven with the Saturday games beginning at noon.
