No local team goes unscathed at first day of TOC

Santa Barbara High’s boys volleyball team was upset in the opening round of its own Karch Kiraly Tournament of Champions on Friday, falling to Palisades Charter School 17-25, 27-25, 25-22, 25-23 before bouncing back to beat Ventura, 25-22, 25-22, 25-22.

The Dons suffered from 17 missed serves in the opening match.

“We’re a young team, but we’ve gotta stop making excuses like that. What’s good is that we responded really well against Ventura,” said coach Chad Arneson.
