Maiwald heads home to protect Spartans’ goal

SBCC women’s soccer goalie Meghan Maiwald has signed to play for San Jose State. It’s a homecoming for the sophomore standout, who attended Leigh High in San Jose.

Maiwald was named first team All-Western State Conference in 2008 and ’09. She was the No. 2 goalie in the state last year with a 0.35 goals-against average and 11 shutouts. She’s the school record-holder for shutouts in a season (13 in 2008) and career (24).

The Vaqueros went 10-4-6 last year and barely missed the state playoffs.

San Jose State was 11-6-3 in 2009 and won the Western Athletic Conference title
