Kohansamad helps Cardinals clean up

Andre Kohansamad had never played singles for Bishop Diego’s boys tennis team before Tuesday. His test-run went as well as could be as the freshman swept three sets without losing a game in a 15-3 Cardinals rout over St. Bonaventure at the Santa Barbara Municipal Courts.

Kohansamad led a singles side that won eight-of-nine sets to help the Cardinals improve to 5-3 in the Frontier League. With a victory on Thursday at Santa Clara, a team the Cardinals have already beaten handedly, Bishop Diego will finish in second place.

“(Kohansamad) played with a lot of poise, it wasn’t lucky,” said Bishop Diego head coach Ray Vazquez of Kohansamad.

In doubles, the Cardinals teams of Matt Grimes/Charlie Taylor and Sean Stratford-Jones/Mick Mathis did well, sweeping their three sets to bring Bishop a third of the day’s total available sets.

After Santa Clara, Bishop Diego has the Frontier League Championships on Monday at Santa Clara.
