Fitness icon coming to MAFF this Saturday

Martial Arts Family Fitness (MAFF), a family-owned and operated school dedicated to improving lives through martial arts, announced today that respected small business entrepreneur, nutrition and fitness expert, inspirational speaker and bestselling author Bill Phillips will join the MAFF family’s “Kickin’ for Haiti” fundraiser. The event, organized to raise money for Direct Relief International’s efforts to assist the people of Haiti, will take place at the Santa Barbara school’s facility on Saturday, May 1, 2010. The event begins at 2:00 PM and ends at 4:00 PM.

“We are very excited to have Bill join us for this event,” said Melodee Meyer, co-owner of Martial Arts Family Fitness. “Having such a distinguished and well-respected authority on nutrition and exercise fits very well with what we do as a school and more importantly, he exemplifies service and the importance of giving to others.  We are so excited to have him here and are grateful for his participation.”

Bill Phillips is the most successful fitness author in history, having written several books including “Body For Life” and the soon-to-be-released, “Transformation: A Path from Physical to Spiritual Well-Being”.  Phillips has received many honors for his work with the Make-A-Wish Foundation and was honored by Paul Newman and by John F. Kennedy Jr. as one of America’s most generous business leaders.

“Making healthy changes in our lives so we can make a difference in the lives of others, is what it’s all about,” says Bill Phillips. “I want to help share inspiration and hope, help more people become aware of their true potential, and help them discover that extraordinary and exciting transformation is possible for them too!”

MAFF has a goal to raise $25,000.00 for Direct Relief’s efforts, and is also conducting a soap drive at its school. “The people at Direct Relief mentioned that one of the greatest needs in post-disaster Haiti is soap,” added Ms. Meyer. “We started a soap drive at our school and asked our students to do whatever they can. The response has been phenomenal, and we invite the rest of Santa Barbara to visit us, drop off some soap, meet Bill and participate in the “Kickin’ for Haiti” event that will include a silent auction, raffle, kick-a-thon, exciting demos, a free safety seminar.
