Dons win all about the league championship

The gusty wind kept Thursday’s scores from being anything special, yet Santa Barbara’s 395-410 victory over Buena was extra-special for the Dons golf team.

The win clinched the Channel League championship for the Dons, who went 7-1 in league play this season.

“Winning the Channel League championship this year is really special because we’ve been saying all year how tough our league is,” said Dons head coach James Bedard.

Jack Perry led the way, conquering the elements to shoot an ever-par 72 for medalist honors. The Northwestern-bound senior completes the regular season at six-under.

“I don’t think we’ve played on a windier day this year. It was really difficult out there,” Bedard said.

Buena’s Brett Silvernail posted the next best score at 74 followed by Santa Barbara’s Mickey Kirby at 78.

The Channel League Individual Championships are Tuesday and Wednesday of next week at Soule Park. Both teams will be playing at Cypress Ridge on May 10 for the first round of the CIF postseason.
