Betties roll over NorCal girls

The Mission City Brawlin’ Betties took Santa Barbara by storm from the moment their skates first started rolling last year and in their first home bout of the season, on April 17 at Earl Warren Showgrounds’ outdoor flat track, they unleashed their fury on eight wheels.

With a final score of 147 to 84, the Brawlin’ Betties reigned on the rink against Nor Cal Roller Girls (from Chico). Both teams put out a great effort, with badass blocking and agile jammers. Standouts from Nor Cal included Slappa Ho and Slapjack, while the Betties’ own Viva Violence and Foxx4s were nearly unstoppable. Mission City blockers Stella Ar-Twat and B-Stroyer also had great games and helped the Betties rack up their points while delivering hard hits to keep Nor Cal jammers at bay.

As they say in derby: It’s not IF you get hurt, it’s WHEN. And this time it was Chi Chi Von Tease’s turn, breaking an ankle near the end of the first half. We wish her a speedy recovery and hope to see her back on her feet and skating soon.

The Mission City Brawlin’ Betties’ next home game will take place at Earl Warren Showgrounds on May 8, at 5 p.m., against the West Coast Derby Knockouts. Check out the Brawlin Betties web site for more information. See you there!
