San Marcos errors give Lompoc all it needs

Saturday’s baseball game between San Marcos and Lompoc produced a bizarre linescore.

The host Braves had just two hits, both singles, but won 7-6. It was thanks to San Marcos committing five errors and allowing six runs in the third inning. The Royals also stranded eight runners in the game.

“You don’t want to read too much into it because it all happened in one inning,” said assistant coach Mike Farmer of the errors. “The good news is that we came back.”

The Royals scored four in the top of the fourth and two in the fifth, but still fell a run short. Nick Villegas went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored, while Shane Moore and Nick Stathopoulos also had a pair of hits each. Riley Moore had a hit, two walks and two runs scored.

Farmer said that Friday’s win against Santa Barbara — San Marcos’ first since 2005 — may have led to the next-day letdown. The Royals (4-3) play at Buena on Tuesday.
