Rams relinquish unbeaten season

Pacifica Christian piled on five runs in the sixth and seventh innings Wednesday, finally getting to Cate in a 6-2 non-league victory.

The win was revenge of sorts for Pacifica, which was knocked out of the CIF playoffs last season by the Rams.

Austin Cortina pitched a complete game for the Seawolves, who improve to 3-3 on the season. Cate (2-1) dropped it first game in three tries.

This double play in the bottom of the seventh with the bases loaded scored Cate's second run.

Jackson Mauze started for the Rams, striking out six batters in five innings. Robert Fairbanks came on in relief for the final two innings. Of Pacifica Christian’s six runs, only one was earned because of six Cate errors.

Fairbanks stroked an RBI single to left field in the bottom of the seventh that scored Mauze and broke up Cortina’s shutout bid. After a walk loaded the bases, Erik Luo grounded into a double play but knocked in the runner from third in the process. Luo recorded a hit earlier in the game, making himself and Fairbanks the only Rams to get a hit.

Cate faces Newbury Park Adventist in its next game on Friday.
