Oxnard out of luck at San Marcos

Just when Oxnard was on the verge of winning the first set of San Marcos’ boys volleyball season, the Royals came alive and beat the visiting Yellowjackets 27-25, 25-16, 25-22 on Jon Lee Court.

Oxnard held a 24-19 lead in the first game before San Marcos was able to reverse its fortunes and steal the opening set.

“We had a great balanced attack tonight,” said San Marcos head coach Roger Kuntz, citing five players with at least six kills.

Zach Yinger and Jackson Kunz led the team with eight each while Johnny Manzo delivered seven. Ian McFarlane only had four kills but had a team-high with five blocks.

The Royals (1-0) play again on Friday when they host Arcadia.
