Gauchos roll with Rouleau

No. 11 UCSB (11-8) defeated Cal Sate San Bernardino (12-7), 11-9, before knocking off Bucknell (7-6), 8-3, at Campus Pool on Sunday. Senior Lizzie Rouleau had a tremendous day, scoring four goals in each game. The two victories mark the first time UCSB has picked up two wins in one day since the opening day of the season.

In its first game of the afternoon, UCSB fell behind early, trailing 4-2 after the first quarter. In the second, the teams played evenly, each posting three goals. The Coyotes netted three additional goals in the third, but the Gauchos countered with four of their own, tying the score at 9-9 going into the fourth.

In the final period, UCSB posted two more goals, while holding CSU San Bernardino scoreless, to squeeze out the win. Shelby Haroldson netted three goals in the victory.

The Gauchos second game of the day, against Bucknell, was a far more dominant performance. UCSB outscored the Bison 3-1 in the first quarter, then added another in the second, bringing the count to 4-1 at half. Bucknell was able to find the net twice in the second half, but could not take control from the Gauchos, who scored four of their own to seal the win.

UCSB will return to action when they host the Gaucho Invite, over the weekend of March 27-28, at Campus Pool.
