Bob Dinaberg, a longtime SBCC football coach and athletic director, will be inducted into the California Community College Sports Hall of Fame on Wednesday at the 13th annual COA/CCCAA Convention in Ontario.

Bob Dinaberg

He’ll be joined by Michael Cooper (former Pasadena City College/L.A. Laker star and USC women’s basketball coach), Warren Hansen (Cuesta coach and AD for 31 years) and Pete Rozelle (Compton College student/NFL commissioner).

Dinaberg coached football at SBCC from 1969-86, compiling a 120-60-4 record with eight WSC titles. He was football coach for 18 years, AD for 22 years and an educator for 33 years. A member of several Hall of Fames, Dinaberg was one of the founding fathers of the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) and served as President.

At one point in his career, he served as President of the Western State Conference, California Community College Football Coaches Association and California Community College Athletic Directors Association.

The Commission on Athletics Sports Hall of Fame is the highest honor bestowed in California community college athletics. Founded in 1984, the Hall of Fame has sought to recognize those who have made the most of their experiences as California community college student-athletes, coaches and administrators, maximizing their own potential to better themselves and those with whom they come into contact.

The four new inductees will join ninety-one previous inductees in the Hall, which features some of the most recognizable names in amateur and professional sports. To view the Hall of Fame page complete with past nominees and bios, follow this link — www.coasports.org/history-hof.asp.
