Warriors stingy in a good way

Carpinteria’s girls basketball team didn’t allow Grace Brethren to score more than seven points in a quarter on Tuesday night, which didn’t add up to much in a 44-20 Frontier League win for the Warriors.

Amanda Burch led Carpinteria in scoring with 17, including nine of the Warriors’ 16 points in the second quarter. Caitlin Wallace recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Carpinteria put away Grace Brethren early, taking a 12-3 lead after the first quarter that was 28-8 at halftimes.

Sierra Freeman grabbed seven steals for Carpinteria, which hosts Bishop Diego on Thursday in a game with second-place on the line.

“Tonight was a good chemistry game,” said Carpinteria head coach Dan Mercer.

“It made us feel good going into the Bishop game.”
