Dodson, Royals profit at the charity stripe

Buena was feeling generous on Wednesday, gifting San Marcos 38 free throws. J.P. Dodson made the Bulldogs pay, sinking 21 of 23 to lead the Royals to a 75-57 Channel League victory.

The win moves San Marcos (17-4, 5-1) a half-game ahead of Ventura in the league standings.

Dodson scored all of his points from the charity stripe. Chad Ridenour poured in 17 more and Christian Mkpado added 11 points while San Marcos scored 46 points in the second half.

San Marcos crushed Buena on the boards, outrebounding the Bulldogs 34-15. Mkpado and Josh Guild grabbed eight each and Benny Kirkwood pulled down six to go with eight points.

The Royals connected on 32 of their 38 attempts and 24 of 27 in the second half.

Buena took only 15 foul shots itself while being whistled for 25 fouls to San Marcos’ 16.

Dos Pueblos pays the Royals a visit on Tuesday.
