Royals ransacked by Cougars

Ventura’s girls basketball team lost its first game of the season in its last Channel League game almost a week ago.

But the Cougars didn’t look beatable on Thursday night, routing San Marcos 54-17 rout at the Thunderhut.

“We just couldn’t convert offensively,” said Royals head coach Kristyn Miller, whose Royals didn’t reach double figures in scoring in any quarter.

Kimmy Sanchez was San Marcos’ leading scorer with six points.

“(Sanchez) looked to be more aggressive,” Miller said.

Amy Pupa tallied 14 points and Maddie Fahan was next with 13 as Ventura improved to 18-1 on the season. The Cougars play a non-league game on Saturday at Diamond Bar before facing Dos Pueblos on Tuesday.

The Royals have a bye Tuesday and play next on Friday against Santa Barbara at the Sports Pavilion.
