Giroux, Lake last men standing in Santa Ynez

Louis Giroux and Julian Lake won their weight classes and Luis Urbina finished runner-up for San Marcos at the Santa Ynez wrestling tournament on Saturday.

Giroux dominated the 171-pound class, recording three pins and one major decision. In the final, he pinned Frank Martinez of Morro Bay at 50 seconds in the first period.

Lake outlasted Blake Chavez in overtime to take the 189-pound title.

Luis Urbina showed that he’s making great progress after recovering from a bout of  the swine flu, noted coach Tony Becerra.

“We’re glad he made it to the finals so early,” said Becerra.

Other place finishers for the Royals were David Villesbath, third at 130 pounds, and Connor Psefferle, consolation champion at 145 pounds, whose lone loss was to the eventual champion by one point in the first round.
