DP stays unbeaten heading into TOC semis

The first day of the Tournament of Champions failed to slow the dominance of the top-ranked Dos Pueblos water polo team, as the Chargers beat Mater Dei 14-3 and Coronado 10-1 on Friday. Tiera Schroeder and Amanda Redfern had hat tricks in the first match and Alex Hill did the same in the second.

That makes the Chargers 15-0 on the season heading into Saturday’s semifinals at Santa Barbara High at 11:10 a.m. They’ve also beaten seven of the other nine teams ranked in the top 10, but DP knows not to get over-confident.

“I think it’s really important to keep our composure. Everybody has off games and anyone can come out there and beat us,” said Schroeder.

Kodi Hill scored two goals 40 seconds apart to open the second quarter against the Islanders, and Kiley Neushul rifled a penalty shot into the back of the net to give DP a 7-0 lead heading into the break. Coronado’s lone goal came late in the third to make it 8-1, but it was far too late.

Sami Hill had 10 saves in goal for the Chargers.
