Cardinals crushed by league-leading Saints

Santa Clara had four players in double figures on Thursday, shooting down Bishop Diego’s girls basketball team 63-42 in a Frontier League contest.

“They’re at least 20 points better then everyone in our league,” said Cardinals head coach Jeff Burich, who was surprised by how well the Saints shot the ball from the perimeter.

Santa Clara connected on six 3-pointers, three coming from leading scorer Chanel Smith, who had 18 points.

Janelle Kohler led Bishop Diego with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Dalise Spense pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds to go with her six points while Allison Breuer pulled down nine rebounds.

“Definitely our best game of the year for the post poistion,” said Burich.

The Cardinals (13-9, 3-3) play again on Tuesday against Santa Paula.
