Three hat tricks tallied in DP victory

Still missing two starters, the top-ranked Dos Pueblos girls water polo team managed to beat its second ranked opponent in as many days with an 11-7 victory over No. 6 Foothill on Saturday.

Nicole Morelos filled in as a starter and tallied a hat trick, as did Alex Hill and freshman Jamie Neushul.

“Nicole came up absolutely huge for us,” said coach Danelle Little. “We expected her to come in and fill the whole, but for her to score three goals was outstanding.”

Neushul’s three goals in just her second high school game were not such a surprise for Little.

“I knew she would be a very, very talented player. She’s crafty and smart on defense. I think it was actually fun for her not to have to play with her sister,” she said.

Kiley Neushul, the Chargers’ star junior, was away from the team playing for the USA team in an international event in Canada.

Foothill sophomore McKenna Mitchell is a fantastic scorer in the middle, according to Little, but Kodi Hill was able to come in and shut her down. It did lead to a lot of shots at the cage, but Sami Hill was there for 14 saves with a pair of steals.

The Chargers (2-0) host fifth-ranked Santa Barbara on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m.
