“The girls are in a great place right now, they are enjoying their soccer very much and being part of the team, which is starting to reflect in their play on the field,” said San Marcos head coach Lloyd Biggs.

Vicky Uribe scored first for the Royals on an assist from Ali Raack just four minutes into the match. Uribe struck again, this time unassisted, by beating a defender on the dribble and knocking it home for a 2-0 lead.

Raack gave the Royals a 3-0 halftime lead off a Nicolette Leslie corner kick that Raack headed in. Lizzie Willet finished off the scoring in the 70th minute assisted by Jenny Ann Martinez.

San Marcos closed out the tournament with two consecutive wins after dropping the first two to Royal (3-0) and Oak Park (2-1).

The Royals survived West Ranch for their first win by pulling out the win in penalty kicks. Despite out-shooting the Wildcats 12-2, the game was still tied 0-0 after regulation and overtime, leading to some big plays under pressure from Kaitlyn Mendoza and Willet.

Mendoza made a save in goal to keep the Royals alive in the shootout before Willet stepped up to clinch the victory in a sudden-death situation.

San Marcos finished 2-2 in the tournament and is 3-6 on the season.
