Pilapil happy to be hairless after DP’s comeback win

“You lose a lot of hairs when you coach a team of sophomores and freshmen,” said Maynard Pilapil.

It’s a good thing the Dos Pueblos girls basketball coach keeps his head closely shaved.

The Chargers had blown out Lompoc a few weeks ago thanks to 35 points from Jasmine Mata, but it was a little different on Wednesday. Dos Pueblos trailed for the first 30 minutes before winning the fourth quarter 14-6 and pulling out a 47-45 win over the Braves at the Righetti Tournament.

Mata had 14 this time while Chiara DiMarco had a game-high 19. Kristen Gowdy and Talisa Draper each had eight boards.

“We started off sluggish, and I told them that we better not be taking this team for granted,” said Pilapil, whose Chargers are now 9-8 heading into Channel League play. “Chiara and Jasmine hit some big shots to get us going in the second half.”
