Muñoz scores 20 as Cards dominate Kern Valley

After seven quarters with little offensive production on Tuesday, Elias Munoz scored seven points in the fourth quarter of a win over Morro Bay. The Bishop Diego sophomore carried it over to Wednesday, scoring 11 of his 20 points in the first quarter as the Cardinals finished the Valley Christian Tournament with a 68-27 win over Kern Valley.

“He’s still young. He always guards the other teams best defender for us and rebounds hard, so he has to learn that even when the shots aren’t falling he has a big impact,” said coach Ray “Slash” Vazquez.

Senior Ted Sleep came in and picked up a bucket and showed his leadership by leading the team in prayer before the game.

“He was the MVP of our cross-country team and he’s the hardest worker in the weight room. The other kids just love him,” said Vazquez, who also highlighted the play of senior Bryan Herrera, who had four points. Sam Kwock was named to the All-Tournament Team.
