Mata makes DP a winner again

Jasmine Mata keeps raising the ceiling.

The Dos Pueblos sophomore increased her scoring total for the third straight game to start the season, this time with 35, leading the Chargers to a 75-51 rout of Lompoc at the Braves’ very own tournament on Friday.

Mata, now averaging 28 points during a 3-0 start  for the Chargers, added seven steals and two blocks on defense.

Help was all around, starting with Jessica Escalante’s 18 points, five steals and seven assists. Kristen Gowdy tallied 14 points and four rebounds. Natalie Hilton filled the stat sheet with seven assists, five rebounds and three steals.

“It was a good game, we were able to impose our will,” Chargers head coach Maynard Pilapil said.

Dos Pueblos dominated the first half, building a 45-18 halftime lead.

“We jumped on them early because we were able to capitalize off their turnovers,” Pilapil said.

Tashara Pruett collected a team-high 14 points for the Braves
