Burch, Wallace carry Warriors to second win

Carpinteria’s Amanda Burch and Caitlin Wallace combined to score 90 percent of the Warriors point total in a 40-35 non-conference victory at Hueneme on Friday night.

Burch finished with 19 and Wallace added 17 points to go with 14 rebounds. More importantly, each was knocking down their free throws down the stretch as Hueneme was able to cut a 13-point third-quarter lead down to two with 1:30 remaining.

“We survived with our free throws,” said Warriors head coach Dan Mercer, who saw the Vikings rally behind four third-quarter 3-pointers from Hueneme’s Ana Mantalvo and Myla Bautista.

“Everytime they made a run, Burch was there to answer,” said Mercer.

Alex Steene, with four points, was Carpinteria’s only other scorer besides Burch and Wallace.
