Last weekend I was in Santa Cruz doing some videoing with one of my sponsors “Nike 6.0.” I had not been up to Santa Cruz much so it was really cool to get to know the town and the waves!
A cool thing that was going on up there as well was the Cold Water Classic presented by O’Neill. The contest was held at Steamer Lane which is a big right-hand point break. So it was really cool for me to see that. I also got to surf a lot of new spots because I had not been up there much.
The waves are so much different than Santa Barbara — much more powerful, cold, bigger, and SHARKEY!
But thats what make it thrilling. Also, it was really fun shooting with photographers because I haven’t had the chance to do that much so I got to learn more about that. The only thing that really got me spooked up there was the sharks.
In fact, the day after I left there was a shark attack at the same spot that I surfed at the day before!! I don’t think I’ll ever go back to that beach!
