Harvey hammers Windward weary

Jackie Harvey pounded down 24 kills in three sets on Saturday, leading Laguna Blanca’s girls volleyball team to a hard-fought 25-19, 25-23, 25-15 CIF quarterfinal victory over No. 3 Windward.

“Our girls played awesome. It’s the most aggresive we’ve played all year,” said Owls head coach Jim Alzina, adding that Windward was one of their toughest opponents this season.

Laguna Blanca (20-1) is home for its Div. IV-AA semifinal match against St. Margaret’s on Tuesday.

Amanda Harvey and Lillie Hodges matched each other with a team-high 14 digs and Heidi van den Oever knocked down five blocks.

“Our defense really set the tone tonight, their best hitters were having a hard time putting the ball way,” Alzina said.

Jessie Ditmore tallied nine kills and Amanda Schulenberg eight.
