CIF POLLS: Thacher, Cate prepare for Top-10 clash

A win over No. 2 Santa Barbara  on Tuesday, coupled with a second-place finish to Archbishop Mitty at the Tournament of Champions, kept Dos Pueblos girls volleyball entrenched at No. 1 in Div. I-A in the latest CIF Polls released on Monday.

Barring a huge upset in the next few days, the Chargers and Dons will enter the postseason as the division’s top-two seeds, setting up a possible rematch of last year’s final at Rob Gym.

Cate and Thacher meet in an 8-man football game to decide the Condor League title. Both teams are undefeated in league so far, with the Toads holding onto a higher ranking at No. 3 than the Rams at No. 7.

Ventura and Dos Pueblos switched places in boys water polo’s first division. The Cougars forced the Chargers to share the Channel League title with an 11-10 thriller at Elings Aquatic Center on Wednesday. Ventura is now No. 5, Dos Pueblos No. 6, and Santa Barbara holds at No. 8.

Santa Barbara girls tennis will be the No. 2 seed in Div. II heading into the playoffs, having been ranked behind Palm Desert for the entire season.

Cate’s girls cross country team is the only South Coast squad to crack the polls, falling in seventh in Div. V. Mackenzie Walsh, who finished third at the County Championships on Friday, and the Rams will compete at the Condor League Championships on Wednesday.
