Dons lose on last-second miracle shot

Santa Barbara’s boys water polo team came all the way back from a four-point deficit in the second half only to lose on a buzzer-beating full-court shot against Agoura at the Villa Park Classic Thursday.

After trailing 8-4 in the third quarter, the Dons stormed back and tied the game up at 11-11. They had the ball at the very end but lost possession, and Agoura fired a prayer as the clock ran out that found the back of the net.

“The guys played great and fought really hard. That was one of the roughest ways to lose I’ve ever seen,” said coach Mark Walsh.

Kenny Myers had four goals in the game while Enzo Wolfe added three and Brendan-Kerwin McElroy scored two.

Earlier in the day, the Dons (8-4) downed La Serna 12-6 behind five goals and five steals from Myers.

On tap for Friday is a showdown with Santa Margarita, who is coached by former UCSB assistant coach Kevin Ricks.

“He’s also a former roommate of mine, so we’re fired up,” said coach Mark Walsh.
