Deardorff picks up first win in Oxnard

Santa Barbara High cross-country star Briggs Deardorff won the boys race at Friday’s College Park Invitational in Oxnard, recording a personal-best time of 15:47.

“It’s the first race he’s won. He’s been going nuts trying to win one,” said coach Olivia Perdices. “He ran a rock-solid race and hit his splits. There was a pack of five guys at the front that slowly dwindled and he broke away with about 500 meters left.”

On the girls side, senior Ana Cowgill led the Dons with a mark of 21:23, which was good enough for 30th place.

Nolan Walker recorded a personal-best in the boys race by finishing 25th at 17:16.

Next up for the Dons is the Clovis Invitational on October 10th.
