CIF Polls: No. 1 Chargers, No. 2 Dons at it again

For the second time this season, Dos Pueblos and Santa Barbara will meet as the top two girls volleyball teams in CIF Div. I-A on Tuesday. Only this time, the Chargers are the No. 1 team, having held that position since the week after defeating the Dons in their first Channel League matchup.

Match time is 6:30 p.m. in J.R. Richards Gymnasium.

Dos Pueblos’ boys water polo, also preparing for a Channel League clash with Santa Barbara on Tuesday, was knocked down a couple of spots in Monday’s weekly CIF poll, dropping from No. 3 to No. 5 in Div. I.

The Chargers beat No. 8 Santa Barbara 11-6 on Tuesday and placed seventh at the North-South Challenge, which features eight of the state’s top teams. El Toro, which won the tournament, jumped DP and is now No. 4, behind Loyola, Newport Harbor and Corona del Mar.

Santa Barbara maintained its No. 8 spot despite two Channel League losses.

Santa Barbara girls tennis has found a home in the No. 2 position of Div. II. The Dons have been behind No. 1 Palm Desert in every poll. The Dons, who already clinched their 29th straight Channel League title, wrap up their regular season this week with matches against Dos Pueblos and Div. I’s No. 1 team Dana Hills.
