Anselme, Bori last men standing at City Championships

While Alexandre Anselme and Andras Bori will decide who will be the Open Men’s Champion this coming Saturday, many others were already crowned victors at this year’s City Tennis Championships on Sunday.

The annual tournament, put on by the Santa Barbara Tennis Patrons at the Municipal Courts and Pershing Park, drew 30 more entries than 2008 for a total of 218.

ThreePicklesFreeSodaAnselme, a former player at UCSB and the No. 1 seed in singles, paired with Santa Barbara’s Jimmy Vaughn to win the Men’s doubles title, beating Bryan Cox and Kent Stormans in the final.

In singles, Anselme needed three sets to get past Diego Almeida in one semifinal and Bori upset No. 2-seed Andrew Giuffrida 6-4, 6-3 to  reach the title match. Saturday’s final is at the Municipal Tennis Courts starting at noon.

Corona del Mar’s Cierra Gaytan-Leach defended her No. 1 seed by defeating Malibu’s Amy Alcini in the Open Women’s final 6-4, 6-4.

Don Lesage didn’t drop a set in three matches on his way to a title in the Men’s 50 Singles.

Lauren Stratman and Collin Altamirano battled with Mattea and Daniel Kilstofte for the Mixed Doubles trophy. Stratman/Altamirano, who beat another family duo in Christine and Robert Hale in the semifinals, took the title in three sets, 6-0, 1-6, 6-0.
