University puts Dons in losing column

A busy schedule finally caught up with Santa Barbara on Friday, as the overworked Dons lost their first match of the season to visiting University, 13-5.

“We’re worn out,” explained Dons head coach Steve Geremia, pointing out that some of his players have had only one day off from competetive tennis in a week. “We competed hard; we just didn’t have much success.”

It was the fourth match in four days for Santa Barbara, which falls to 4-1-1.

Hanna Grokenberger and Kinzie McKeown lost their first set of the season and went 1-1 on the day.

“I told them, ‘hey, you’re going to drop a set once in a while’,” said Geremia, just like the Dons, winners of 28 straight Channel League titles, are going to lose once in a while.
