Soos serves up 10 aces in Vaqs’ 8th straight win

SBCC went on the road for the first time in 25 days on Tuesday and continued its winning ways with a 3-1 women’s volleyball triumph at Glendale. The scores were 25-18, 25-9, 17-25, 25-19.

Freshman setter Kelsey Soos racked up 10 aces and 38 assists for the 24th-ranked Vaqueros, who improved to 8-1 with their eighth straight win. Jenn Waddill and Jessica Tune had 12 kills each with Waddill hitting a crisp .600. Nicole Bergmann, who plays middle blocker like Waddill, added eight putaways.

Soos had five aces in the second set and served the final 10 points of a 25-9 victory.

“We were extremely scrappy in a gym with a lot of fans,” noted coach Ed Gover. “Glendale played with a lot of emotion. We had to battle for every point, especially in sets 3 and 4. In the fourth set, we were tied at 17 and then our middles took over.”

The Vaqueros will play at Cuyamaca in El Cajon on Friday and in the San Diego City Invitational on Saturday.
