Slight defensive slip-up catches up to Vaqueros, 1-1

SYLMAR — Coach John Sisterson said his team “dominated the majority of the game” Tuesday afternoon but SBCC had to settle for a 1-1 men’s soccer tie in its WSC opener at L.A. Mission. The defending WSC champion Vaqueros are 0-5-2 on the season.

Stuart Kirk put the visitors up 1-0 in the 23rd minute on a nice pass from Danny Rodriguez. The Eagles tied it on a penalty kick in the second half.

“The first half was great and the first 20 minutes of the second half were fine,” Sisterson noted. “Then the old second-half jinx hit again and we made a defensive error, leading to the PK.

“We had three good scoring opportunities after that with Danny Molineaux missing a 20-yard shot by inches and Stuart having two shots blocked by defenders.”

The Vaqueros return home Friday to take on Oxnard at 7:30 p.m.
