Rueff, Washington bring back Warriors

After falling behind 2-0 in the first 18 minutes of play, Westmont women’s soccer (1-1-1) battled back to a 2-2 tie with Southern Nazarene (0-1-1) on Saturday at Santa Barbara City College’s La Playa Stadium. Despite out-shooting the Crimson Storm 23-8, including 5-0 in the two overtime periods, the Warriors could not find one more goal needed to secure a victory.

Southern Nazarene scored both of their goals in a span of one minute and thirty-three seconds. The first goal, scored by Rachel Eguren, came as the result of a deflection off of a free kick. The second was made by Beatriz Silva from 10 yards out.

The Warriors pulled within one when forward Aolani Rueff scored off a cross from senior Jessica Zuehlsdorf. It was the third goal of the week by the freshman from Santa Maria.

With a little more than five minutes to play, junior midfielder Jameisha Washington scored the final goal of the game. After a Warrior free kick bounced off the Crimson Storm keeper, Washington was able to retrieve the ball and place it in the back of the net.

The Warriors return to action on Saturday, September 12 when they will travel to CSU San Marcos to participate in a men’s and women’s soccer doubleheader. The women will kick off at one o’clock with the men to follow at three.
