Royals stung by Yellowjackets at Thunderhut

A few too many passing and serving errors derailed the San Marcos girls volleyball team on Thursday night, as the Royals fell to visiting Oxnard 23-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-16 at the Thunderhut.

Jaimie Mayner and Katherine Crook combined for 15 kills and coach Courtney Preston said that libero Emma Campbell anchored the back row with some solid defense, but Oxnard had a 6-foot-3 middle blocker who proved to be an overpowering weapon.

San Marcos starts Chammel League play at Buena on Tuesday.

“The pieces are there for this team, but we’re still working on getting it all together and running it smoothly,” she said. “We need to stay focused on getting better every day in practice and we’ll be fine.”
