Lancers drop Warriors in second half

Carpinteria led 9-8 on Friday night and lost 22-9. Even though the scores are a bit unusual for football, the result is the same for the Warriors as they fall to 0-4 with the loss to Grace Brethren at Moorpark College.

“It was a game of missed opportunities,” said Warriors head coach Ben Hallock. “We had our chances.”

Hallock cited a fourth quarter possession where the Warriors had a 1st-and-goal on the 6-yard line and couldn’t get any points. A touchdown would have put the Warriors within a score late in the game.

Paul Aguilar and Jeremy Stein hooked up for a 7-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter that gave Carpinteria a 7-0 lead at halftime.

The Lancers put together a long scoring drive to start the third quarter and took an interception back for a touchdown later in the quarter to take the lead for good.

A quarterback scramble that ended with a touchdown heave to the endzone and a 2-point conversion gave Grace their final margin.

Carpinteria heads to Fillmore next Friday before taking its bye week on Oct 9. Tri-Valley League play begins the following week at home against Oak Park. Oaks Christian visits Oct. 23.
