El Toro stops Chargers short of semifinals

Chase Racich tallied three goals and the Dos Pueblos boys water polo team almost brought down D-I’s second-ranked team, falling 9-7 to El Toro at the South Coast Tournament on Friday.

DP spotted El Toro a 5-2 lead at halftime but battled back to draw even at 7-7 early in the fourth period.

“We had a lot of bad breaks,” lamented Chargers head coach Chris Parrish, using two shot deflections that redirected into their own goal as examples.

Brady Moore made nine saves and grabbed four steals to lead the defensive effort.

The Chargers, ranked No. 4 in Div. I, face Villa Park on Saturday for a chance to play in the fifth place match later in the day.
