Dons break school record, DP still wins

Thursday was about as bittersweet as it gets for the Santa Barbara girls golf team. The Dons recorded the best round in school history and had three players notch career bests, yet still ended up losing the Channel League match 195-210 to Dos Pueblos at Glen Annie.

Emily Fox birdied her final two holes to claim the medalist spot for the Chargers with a 1-under par 35.

Nicole Bullemer (36) and Vanesa Villa (39) also broke 40 for Dos Pueblos, which remains undefeated on the season at 6-0, 2-0 in league.

“We played really solid and it looks like we needed to,” said Dos Pueblos head coach Rob Schiff, commending the Dons on their continued improvement.

Twin Lakes Golf CourseLike the Chargers, Santa Barbara nearly had three golfers under 40, with Kylie Wagner (39), Olivia Fanaro (40) and Sarah Kirkwood (40) each carding their lowest rounds ever.

Even though the Dons fell to 8-3, 1-1 in Channel League, Dons head coach Ryan Throop kept it in perspective.

“Obviously I’m real happy and they’re real happy,” he said, looking forward to the rematch at Birnum Wood on Oct. 13.
