Delgadillo tracks down first cross country title

Christie Delgadillo captured the first win of her young career on Wednesday, blowing by the field at the season’s first Frontier League meet hosted by Grace Brethren.

The Bishop Diego sophomore wasn’t even sure she was going to race until just before the start, but was glad she did.

“What she’s got inside her you just can’t coach,” raved Cardinals coach Ray Vazquez, saying she was near or in the lead the entire race.

Nicole Poindexter gave Bishop another top-10 finish by coming in eighth.

Elias Munoz, Ted Sleep and Trent Speier went 7-8-9 and the Cardinal boys unofficially finished second to Nordhoff, which won both races.

Bishop Diego will be competing next at the Dos Pueblos Invitational on Oct. 9.
