Bakersfield bumps Vaqueros at Alisal

SBCC shot 348 on Monday in WSC No. 2 at Alisal Ranch in Solvang but came up three strokes short of Bakersfield in the five-school women’s golf tournament. Canyons was third at 367.

Jenna Boyle led the Vaqueros at 84, followed by freshmen Kait Gatena (85) and Alyssa DiVincent (88).

Asaka Sim, the defending state champion, shot 92 and her score didn’t count in the team total.”It was a hot day (92 degrees) and the course got the better of us,” said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. “There were lots of three-putts. The course kind of defeated everybody. We need to build consistency.”

Dee Ray of Bakersfield was the medalist at 80.

The Vaqueros return to action on Sept. 28 in WSC No. 3 at Oakmont CC in Glendale.
