Fernandez leads Nite Moves youth movement

Fourteen-year-old Bryan Fernandez didn’t use age as an excuse on Wednesday, tracking down the top spot in Nite Moves’ 5k run.

Fernandez’s time of 16 minutes and 44 seconds bettered second-place finisher Ricky Ho by 23 seconds. Wednesday’s youth movement went well beyond Fernandez, with three other teenagers placing in the top 10.

Eddie Mezian, 18, came in third, 16-year-old Jacob Bartholomew in sixth and another 14-year-old, Ben York, placed eighth.

After a week away, Chris Arntz returned to the aquathon but failed to win for the first time this season in which he’s competed. Camarillo resident Jim Amvrea did the honors of beating Arntz by 23 seconds, completing the swim/run course in 36:36.
