Stafford keeps Conejo down, 5-3

Sam Stafford struck out eight Conejo Oaks on Tuesday, leading the Santa Barbara Foresters to a 5-3 victory on the road to improve their record to 35-10 on the season.

Stafford, a starting pitcher from the University of Texas, went 5 1/3 innings and upped his record to 3-1 on the season while lowering his ERA to 2.74.

The Forester offense provided the run support in the fifth inning, collecting all five runs on six hits and a Conejo error. Patric Tolentino went 1-for-3 with a 2-RBI triple. Jeremy Rathjen was the only Forester with a multi-hit game, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

The Foresters return to Caesar Uyesaka Stadium on Wednesday with a 5 p.m. matchup against the Oaks. The three-game set will conclude on Thursday at Conejo.
