Royals rail on Cougars, win in four

The San Marcos boys volleyball team tucked away a Channel League victory at Ventura on Thursday, a day before starting the Karch Kiraly Tournament of Champions.

The Royals won in four games, 25-17, 25-22, 25-27, 25-16 and improve to 2-2 in league and 7-3 overall.

San Marcos dominated at the net against the Cougars. Big men Erik Holliday, who worked in 12 solo blocks, and Jon Newton, with a team-high 11 kills, made their mark.

Ian McFarlane and Jackson Kunz both knocked down seven kills.

“All our players played and they all produced with quality minutes,” said Royals head coach Roger Kuntz, but addd that San Marcos will need to pass much better in the TOC to be able to have success.

The Royals open up as the 12th seed against Corona del Mar on Friday.
