Perry’s 70 leads Dons to close win against Royals

Jack Perry sneaked below par with a round of 70 at Rancho San Marcos Tuesday to lead Santa Barbara High to a close 394-401 win over host San Marcos.

“I think that there was some angst about playing San Marcos,” said Dons coach James Bedard. “For years it’s been this rivalry and no matter what everything has been pretty close… This year it’s been tough to win on the road.”

Perry hit a 210-yard 3-iron to within 15 feet and knocked it in for an eagle on the 10th hole.

San Marcos coach David Siordia said he was proud of how his team battled in the wind.

“Everyone expected Santa Barbara to blow us out of the water but I told my boys anything could happen. To get within seven and to have my three (Kyle Rieb – 83) and four (Scott Bradford – 84) play like they did is pretty good,” he said.

If the Royals take down Ventura, they should be able to make CIF.

The Dons host Buena Wednesday at Montecito Country Club.
