The Cate girls lacrosse team put a scare into top-ranked Los Alamitos on Friday, taking an early three-goal lead before the Griffins rebounded in the second half to take the match 13-10.
Cascade Zak and Tori Thompson accounted for all of the Rams’ scoring, with Zak posting a team-high six goals.
Los Alamitos’ second-half comeback wasn’t because of their leading scorer, who was well-contained by freshman defender Annie Weis. Molly Sprague and Maddie Firestone impressed in the midfield, winning nine draws between the two of them.
Assistant coach Linda Sommers said that a rematch, while not scheduled, is in the works.
