Harris stays cool in 4-0 shutout of Cougars

Hannah Harris is just a freshman, but the Dos Pueblos pitcher showed the compsure of a senior in Friday’s 4-0 win over visiting Ventura.

The Cougars loaded the bases in the second, third and fourth innings — twice with no outs — but Harris got out of the jam each time. She also had some stellar defense behind her, according to coach Donn Roberts. She struck out the final batter in the second, got two pop-ups to end the third and forced two ground-ball outs in the fourth.

Kristen Kolegraff made two diving catches in left field, while Amber Altavilla made an over-the-shoulder grab at shortstop and Andria Castagnola picked up a web gem in center field. Marissa Radeke had two hits and a run to go along with some crafty baserunning.

“She basically created a run, because there was a runner on second and she got caught in a pickle, but she held on long enough so that the runner got home from second. It was just a heads-up play,” said Roberts. “This was a team effort, and we’re really starting to gel.”

Both DP and Ventura are now 3-2 in the Channel League, and the Chargers host first-place Buena on Tuesday.
